Kaohsiung: Weiwuying and Dadong
The stylish white Weiwuying architecture, with its bold yet elegant curves, creating a surreal, spaceship-like atmosphere. The partially covered courtyard allows the public to move freely between the relaxing and seamless indoor-outdoor setting. There’s also a small exhibition detailing the history of Weiwuying, and several design shops and coffee shops. It’s a very calming place to spend an afternoon.
Dadong Art Center is smaller but just as beautiful. A row of hot air ballon-like giant curved columns extend from the rooftop, hanging down halfway to the ground, creating a nice shaded open-air area surrounding the main building. Sunlight shines through the center of the hanging columns, adding warmth and a bright, lively feeling. Long benches and fountains lay below the hot air balloons, inviting the public to hang out or to play in the outdoor environment. There’s also an art library with a good collection of books in various art fields. It has a video and audio area equipped with big wide screens, comfy sofas, noise-canceling headphones for individuals to check out, and guests can enjoy art films and music in this quiet and cozy environment for free. A forestry park with a lovely pong sits across the street from Dado mg Arts Center.
