Kaohsiung: Pier 2 Art Center


The Pier 2 Art Center is an art district converted from old shipping warehouses in Kaohsiung. The warehouses were originally built in 1973 and after being abandoned for a long time, the government finally took over and renovated them. From west to east there are three groups of warehouses: Penglai, Dayong, and Dayi. Each warehouse group is linked with pedestrian walkways and bike paths. There're also two lightrail stops:"Penglai Pier 2 Station" and "Dayi Pier 2 Station" , as well as several shared bike booths. You can stroll on the beautiful waterfront walkways and check out cool instalation art and murals along the way.



VR Film Lab (Dayi warehouse C9)

VR Film Lab offers international and Taiwanese virtual reality films. The length of films range from 10 minutes to over an hour. There're two types of viewing spaces, "360 Cinema" and "Interactive Zone". In "360 Cinema", the audience is sitting in arc-shaped egg chairs which can rotate 360 degrees. For the " Interactive Zone", viewers can walk, squat down, wave their arms and use different movements to interact with films. Only two viewers are allowed in one room at a time, with a staff member watching in case they bump into each other. 


Wooderful Life

Right above enatrance stands several colorful wooden animals and plants, this wooden craft shop offers a large array of warm deisgn goods, such as music boxes, indoor garden boxes, household appliances and so on. You can also purchase wooden parts and make your own crafts. From human figures, animals, buildings to card holders and stationery, everyone will find something to make that they like to take home. 


Twine Fair Trade (Dayi warehouse C8)

This exotic cute shop has several branches in Taiwan, selling unique and handmade products from developing countries. You can find home decor, dolls and gifts that follow Fair Trade Principles and some products are made from recycled materials.
