P.12 The origina of Borneo
- 2500萬-1000萬年前, 澳洲板塊與歐亞板塊碰撞, 讓婆羅洲往北半球推進, 婆羅洲逆時針旋轉45-50度。
- 1000萬-500萬年前, 婆羅洲露出水面。
- 神山(Kinabalu): 陸塊擠壓熔岩, 流出地表形成獨立山峰, 由花崗岩構成。10萬-兩萬年前冰河期, 山頂有發達冰斗覆蓋。

沙巴有超過四十個不同的民族, 如Kadazan, Dusun, Chinese, Bajau。
P32 Mangroves
水椰子(nypa frtican)是唯一棕梠科的紅樹林。未成熟的果肉口感如果凍, 可作為甜食, 半透明, 口感Q彈, 是罐頭、摩摩喳喳的食材。

泥沼林
海灣河口紅樹林沉澱物蓄積, 厚酸性泥炭層, 數目多具大板根, 拉敏木、龍腦香科、豬籠草纏勒榕樹。
- 大花草: 寄生植物, 沒有根莖葉, 整個植物體為絲狀構造, 包埋在寄物主植物體內, 只有開花時才突破寄主植物表皮開出碩大花朵。
- 生於蘋果豬籠草蟲囊的豬籠草小雨蛙。
- 鬚豬: 婆羅洲唯一原生豬科, 長鬚覆蓋大部分的吻部。
- 冠班犀鳥hornbills: 70-145公分, 只有完整的原始林才能提供犀鳥繁殖所需的樹洞。在洞內產下一卵, 用泥土/排泄物封住洞口, 只留下一道讓雄鳥遞送食物。

伊班族相信逝世的祖先會化身為紅毛猩猩、長臂猿、山羌等特定動物, 也相信七種鳥類會以兆象給予族人生活指示, 因此禁獵這些動物。
